Hate and Love Is a Fine Line

Someone dragged me out of the room, and we headed for a set of stairs. Just as we were about to take the steps a voice stopped us.

"Thank you, Jonathan, but I can handle this." I knew that voice. It was Ethan. The grip on my arm loosened and I brought my eyes to Ethan. Pain filled my heart when I saw him. I had been pretty sure I was falling for him, when I thought he was a high schooler like me. Normal. But even staring at him, I couldn't think about the fact he was a bloodsucking demon. All I could think is that he was the boy from school, the one I had probably gotten close to starting to have major feelings for. I shuddered to clear my mind and saw that Ethan was staring at me, almost sadly.

"I'd like to show you to your room. We all have different floors, The other Lords, and Nick."

"And your blood slaves share the same floor so you can get to our necks faster?" I asked. I watched as Ethan eyes flashed. Not with anger, but with something else. Something I couldn't put my finger on.

"I'm not going to hurt you." Ethan's words came out softly, and my eyebrows furrowed. Did he actually mean that? Did he care like he did in high school? But I couldn't even be sure, because that probably had all been fake. He had been a vampire all that time.

"Why not? I'm your blood slave." I pointed out. Not that I wanted Ethan to feed on me, though. I shuddered at the thought.

"Let me show you, your room. I'll explain there."

"Fine" I huffed but stalked after Ethan.

He had the second floor, and he brought me to a closed door. I opened the door and walked in. The room was white, with Silver and White dressers, a closet, and shelves. The curtains were lace, sown together with careful white and silver lace, and ribbon. I had a bay window that opened up onto the porch. The bed was gorgeous, with multiple pillows. It was nicer than I had ever had.

"Okay" I said turning away from the room. "Explain" I demanded. Ethan sighed and sat down in a chair next to the window.

"I didn't want this for you."

"Then tell Nick to let me go."

"He won't. It will make him look weak."

"Then he could kill me." I pointed out. I watched as Ethan cringed and a look of pain came across his face.

"That is not even a option."

"Ethan, I don't want to live here."

"You don't have a choice! If you run, Nick will kill you. Or punish you in awful ways."

"I'd say I should go for it. Death, would be good."

"I'm not going to let anyone hurt you. If you don't try to run or do anything stupid, you'll be fine."

"I don't get it. Aren't you Lords supposed to be evil and heartless?"

"Yes. But there's something about you. I couldn't kill you. And I can not watch you die. If Nick wants me to stay sane. So please, just keep yourself out of trouble."

"I'll do my best" I scowled. A moment passed before Ethan stood up.

"I have to take care of something. I'll be back" I opened my mouth to respond but he was already gone.

Well. I plopped down on my bed. Something was wrong with me. Lord Ethan, wasn't Ethan from high school. Ethan from high school was a illuison. A lie. But why did I have a different feeling. Like some part of me could, I searched for the word. Was it Trust? Or was it worse? Did my slow, pathetic human mind acutally believe that I loved him?

No, It couldn't be. It had to be trust.
