    I looked around on the ground for a fallen weapon, but the only ones I saw were too far out in no man's land to reach. Reach...that word stung in my brain like a knife in the gut. After a few more minutes of battle, the last Marine in the corridor was brutally disemboweled by an Elite. They would move up, and I would be sniffed out by a Grunt or something, and that would be it.

    I closed my eyes tightly. I didn't want to die, but there was no way out. Covering my ears, silently praying to whatever God was out there, asking him to forgive me for what I've done and let me into whatever Heaven is real, I hoped that some ghost of a Spartan would leap over those portable walls, pounding Assault Rifle bullets into that split-lipped alien piece of-

     I heard assault rifle bullets. Had my wish come true? I looked up, and there was no more Elite, and no more Grunts either. I looked to the other end of the hall, and there was an advanced-looking Spartan. I silently thanked that same God.
