Nightmares

Their smiles surround me,

Teeth yellowed with time,

Their sunken eyes

Haunt me in my dreams.

I wake in a cold sweat,

Tears streaming down my cheeks,

Breathing erratically,

My eyes surrounded by dark circles.

I breathe deeply,

Gripping the bed sheets to get my bearings.
My eyes dart around the room,

Searching for him.

The mean who haunts me.

I do not know his name,

I do not know what he wants.

His slurred words give me migraines,
As I try to translate.

His Latin no longer makes sense,

His intentions unclear no longer.

I now know what must be done,

As I reach for my wife.

What she did to him is wrong,

So she must be punished.

I must end this nightmare.
