MALORY P.O.V

It was a Friday night and I was getting bored sitting inside the house. I played with Mumbles for some time but how much more could I? He was an enthusiastic dog who has unlimited supply of energy.

I had completed my homework and was now cooking dinner for us. Tomorrow was a weekend and I was excited for my early morning run, which from the past two Saturday’s I was having with Cortez. That was the only time in the weekend he will be with me and for the rest of the day, he will be gone. It looked like he was avoiding me because he knew I would ask him questions about his pack.

After informing me that he belonged to Elegance Pack, Cortez politely told me that he had to get back to work. I was still in a state of shock and so I had got out of the car and somehow managed to walk inside the house.

Elegance Pack? He belonged to Elegance Pack.

Every wolf in the country knows what had happened to Elegance Pack. There is nothing left in that pack. Every one was killed and to know that Cortez was the lone survivor of that pack was shocking. He didn’t reveal anything more and I was hesitant to ask Brenda. I wanted Cortez to tell me everything that has happened back then because I know if I wanted to know the complete truth then I will get that only from him.

It was annoying me, the way he was avoiding me. He had brought me here, away from my family and this was how he was treating me. He used to drop me daily to college but he barely talks anything. I was tired of this, tired of his one word answers, tired of him ignoring me.

I want to be there for him but he clearly doesn’t want me with him. It was making me angry each passing day.

My wolf was distressed from days and I couldn’t properly focus even in the classes. I was constantly thinking about what had happened to Cortez when he was a child. The news that spread around was every wolf from Elegance was killed.

How did Cortez manage to save his life? My wolf would whine every time when I would think how Cortez, as a young boy, would have managed to save himself.

After I was sure that the vegetables were boiled enough, I turned off the heat. I then rummaged the fridge for the items needed to fry chicken for Cortez. Since I have no idea what his favorite food is, I thought he might like meat. Men mostly do.

When I was sure the chicken was fried enough, I couldn’t resist but have a bite to check if it was fried enough. Mumbles walked into the kitchen, sticking his tongue out. Ah, the smell of the chicken. I put one piece on his bowl and then kept the remaining for Cortez.

I then decided to go to Cortez’s office. I had been to his office once or twice just like I have been to the gym and the pool. Since I am alone in the house most of the day, I waste my time visiting different rooms.

In Cortez’s office, I was staring at the beautiful mosaic portrait of Alpha Peter. Cortez had done that using coffee beans. I had learned about his love for mosaic art because there were many such portraits in the house of people I didn’t recognize. I guess they were his former pack members. Don’t know? The portraits were done using corks, pulses, bottle caps, glass.
