"Come on, let's get you that drink." He smiled and patted my back, pushing me towards the kitchen.

Kevin lead me to the back, pushing me down roughly into a chair and disappearing back into the house. The people at the table stared at me, watching my every move like a hawk watching it's prey. I knew what they were thinking, would he run? What's he gonna do now?

I knew better though, running was the biggest mistake I could make. Kevin would send the dogs after me, and I'd be down in about five or so minutes. Those dogs would either chew me up or hold me down until Kevin and the gang arrived at the scene. When they did arrive, I would get the worst beating of my life, nobody leaves family;ever.

How do I know this, because when I was just fifteen years old I'd participated in this. They did something called The Out; you see, the family is like a gang. You get initiated in, mostly by being the gangs little bitch for a year. You do what they say, when they say it and when they're ready then you're in. The Out is what happens when you want to leave this 'family'.

Like most gangs, there's a fight. Whoever brought you into the family is the one who fights you out. The fight goes on for usually about ten minutes, depending on the leader's-Kevin-wishes. If you win the fight, then you get out. If you finish the fight and you can still stand and walk, them you're out. But if you lose or you can't stand or walk, then they leave you there to die or whatever. If you're lucky a stranger might spot you and get you help, but that's unlikely since the fight happens somewhere on the house lot or a place people wouldn't usually go.

I remember the first one I saw, it was for a guy named Bruce. He was about twenty-four years old, and really muscular. He'd been in the family since he was sixteen, everyone had lots of respect for the man. But, then he found a girl and he apparently fell in love with her and decided the gang wasn't the right place to be. So he told Kevin he wanted to leave, back then though the big boss was Kevin's older brother Donté. Donté was the one who brought Bruce in, so of course Bruce had to face Donté.

Long story short, the fight was brutal and Donté showed Bruce absolutely no mercy. I'd never seen so much blood in my life from one fight, and that image had scarred me forever. It follows me around even today. Lots of people around here say Bruce is dead, gone and away but others say they saw him a few times around with the girl he fell in love with and they had kids. I've never seen him, do I believe nothing. Donté though, is locked up for ten to life, he was accused of murder and kidnapping. I wouldn't be surprised, he was pretty much a sociopath.

"Yo, Liam, you okay man?" Kevin asked nudging me, he was staring at me. You'd think he'd look concerned about me, but his eyes were hard and challenging. He wanted to see if I'd want to leave or not, he was waiting for it. He was nervous about it.

I nodded my head. "One of those for me?" I asked pointing at the beer in his hand.

He smiled and nodded, cracking them open and sliding one over to me. He leaned back in his seat, taking a sip from his beer. "As you were saying Dom."

Dom looked up, new as a big dude about six foot four with really tan skin and dark hair. His eyes were a bright blue, lots of girls around here thought he was hot or something but I think he looks a little off. "Oh yeah, so this girl was beautiful, she was a fall Brazilian masterpiece," He said. "So of course you know I went over there to try and get her number or something, but as I was chatting her up this cholo came out if nowhere and started talking mad shit..."

"Apparently the girl was his wife or whatever, but I was like I didn't give a damn cause I get what I want. So were about to straight up fist fight here and the clerk in the store started cussin at us, and then this son of a bitch pulled out a revolver talking about if we don't take this outside his store he'll call the police and shoot if he has too..."
