 LILAC:

The smell of fresh meat was in the air.

The new carcass of an elderly white-tailed deer lay at our feet.

Damian went straight for the gut.

Ripping and yanking various organs from the deer's, now useless, body...

And slurping them up sloppily.

I hesitated.

Staring into the long-ago-dead animal's blank eyes.

But I did then dig in beside Damian.

Ignoring his repulsive feeding sounds...

And focusing on making my jaws slash and cut.

Soon, both of our muzzles were completely dripping with gore.

Damian sat back on his haunches.

Full.

He looked down at me....still eating....and then let his watchful, protective eyes dart around.

He recoiled...

A bit cowardly...

Bumping into me as he proceeded to growl.

I looked up from my finished meal.

The sight of a pure white wolf standing above us didn't surprise me in the least.

It was her.

Watching us curiously...amused....from a short cliff at least a couple of metres above our heads.

Mind if I join you?”

She shouted down at us...

Her voice carrying in the wind....

Prancing down without waiting for a answer...

Now standing right in front of us.

Damian backed away cautiously.

But I stood my ground.

Well, well, well...

Look who's come to pay me a visit...

It's Snow.”

I snapped sarcastically.

Snow's lips pulled back into a questionable smirk.

Glad to see me, Lilac?”

I snorted in response.

What are you doing here?”

Snow sat down...

Folding her tail neatly around her body.

If you couldn't recognize my scent...

This is my land.

And you two aren't necessarily welcome visitors, you know.”

I gritted my teeth.

Thanks for the tip.

We'll be leaving now.”

I turned to Damian...

Who was confused as we shared one of those looks.

Snow jumped in between us two...

Hey! Not so fast!

As long as you're here...

We might as well have a nice, long catch up.

Don't you think?”

Snow cocked her head to the side...

Staring at me.

Trying to read me.

I sighed...

Exasperated.

Fine.

We'll stay...for now.”

Good...

But, firstly, there's someone I think you should meet.”

Snow erupts into a painfully long, echoing howl.

It was warm, soft, loving and melodic.
