IV - Last Kiss

It was a Saturday when the sun shined
I felt the heat on my skin.
You looked at me and asked me not to go.
I held your hand and I said "I'll stay"
I took a deep breathe and looked in your longing and lonely eyes.

You began with the happy but spoke the words that shattered my heart
The tears I have been fighting came flooding through my eyes.

I looked away and fought the urge to breakdown.
You tried to stop me but it was too late,
Because the shadows have covered my eyes
And the last thing you did was kiss me,
Not upon my lips but on my forehead
A sign of respect and endless love
But also a sign of goodbye and courage

I watched you walk away from what we had
I watched the empty sidewalk
Until it all became cold to me.
And there I still felt your presence
As it brought back the memories that once had been

You said there was forever but it was all a lie
I only got the feeling of your empty warmth and touch as I dry my eyes
Dark as the shadow you cast
Bare as my soul holds
Let this be the last
As your last kiss unfolds
