The sun came to me and said
"You can shine so much brighter
Than all those stars.
Why don't you just join me
And we can make a few adjustments
To help you survive the heat of the day"

I replied and said
"No thank you,
But I like the way I am.
I'm dull and rough
And I like the cold.
I'm in no need of change
To survive somewhere I don't belong"

The moon visited me and said
"Why don't you come here?
I'm dull and rough too
And I've got plenty of distance
From anyone else.
All I'll have to do is
Change a few things around here
Then you can come."

I replied and said
"No thank you.
It's awfully enticing
And you're such great company
But I could never make you change
Just for one single person
As insignificant as me."

And then the stars flooded my view and said
"How about you come with us?
Some of us are dim
While others are quite bright.
You won't stand out
Not one bit.
We love everyone
Big and small
Short and tall
Light and dark
Strong and weak.
And there's no one here
Who needs to change."

I replied with a smile and said
"Thank you.
But no thanks.
You all sound so wonderfully nice
And it sounds like a dream
But I could never leave
My friends and family here.
Even though this world isn't perfect
I still believe that
The people here
Are worth more than any amount of money.
They're worth more than any
Star, moon, or sun
And maybe I don't know
Where exactly I fit in
But I do know
That if I need to get away
I've always got
Someone to pilot me to space."
