The Hindrance

Proud and tall we stood

For we were the cream of the crop,

We were to be the first

And all eyes were on us.

Parents and fellow cadets

From varying companies in attendance

Our passing out parade, this was;

It was our time, our moment; no one could stop us

The heat of the sun battered us,

Yet strong we stood.

When we saluted we move with the

Accuracy of well-timed coordination

Who knew what we were getting ourselves into,

Was slowly in itself diminishing.

Stuck into our minds the cadet force’s mission

We were to be the responsible and loyal citizens,

They wanted to create.

A holistic approach to military training

Whilst drilling the core values of a cadet

Deep into the subconscious of our minds

The method through which we were to be molded

Sadly, this was what they wanted

But never really accomplished

Now due to society’s so called modernization

This once strong standing

Company has lost its importance,

Its mission no longer in the forefront.

What do we stand for?

Oh, only the cry of professed values we once held.

Seeping through the mouths of our parents

Like red ants on a hot trail

“This is my child; so don’t have anything to tell her”

For no one can tell Your Child what to do, but you.

Oh Lord! Look at the change

Remember the time when society raised the nation’s children.

Travel the years to the moment in time

When the community disciplined its children

Seemed like you were beaten or scolded

By everyone of your neighbors

Only to enter those doors labeled as home

 To be once again beaten.

Now all we hear is “mine, mine, mine”

And “Leave mi child I go raise him how ah want”

With this how can the necessary discipline be instilled into us as cadets?

How are we to be transformed?

If this is not enough, we are pressured by our peers

Directly and indirectly

For whom in this so called ‘Hip’ contemporary society

Wants to be different, wants to make a difference

Fitting in becomes our one gold and treasured purpose

For we think about the now and not the future;

Our conventional values lost along the passage of time.

For is it not ironic,

That we were to be the leaders of the next generation

Yet here we are being its followers.

I can hear the laughter now

What have we become?

Innovation in, tradition out

Cellular Phones, Television, Computers

The most highly worshiped, the Internet.

Pagans of a contemporary cadet

Corruption then becomes inevitable,

For our molding tools now become the things we reverence.

Respect we ignore

Rule and Regulations we laugh at

Monsters that roam without a master

No one can tells us what to do

Rebellion we exalt

For our mind set has been sifted

A life ruled by choices

Influenced by our society

Going with the crowd comes naturally.

Slowly society’s moral values are declining

And the traditional ways of socialization

Have long gone

For did not the bible say in the last days

Each new generation would

Become worse than the last

At present our only solution is to stand together

To make a conscious choice for change

Society hand in hand with the cadets

Let us make a difference.

Parents play your parts

Instill the law

Let’s take a page out of the past

And add to the betterment of our futures

Help our future leaders take up their roles in society.

Be no longer our hindrance.
