"Sabrina get your good for nothing ass down here!" I hear my amazing step dad yell from down stairs. It seems like ever since he put a ring on my mom's finger he thinks he owns me. But I guess it's not that bad he's only hit me a few times but every time the bruise stays a little longer.

I wish my mom would do something about it but if she tried he would make her regret it. I'm happy he doesn't hurt her I just can't even look at her anymore. She wants to believe we have this perfect family, but in reality I'm on the verge of running away and my brother Trey already did.

Trey was the only person in the house that gave a shit if Matt hit me or not, but I haven't talked to him in four years now. I miss him more and more each day. He was the one person that I could talk to. After my mom got married I wasn't allowed to even have friends stay the night anymore. So they started to drift away from me.

Breaking out of my thoughts I go to the bathroom and pull my long brown hair back into a pony tail while slipping on my glasses. I quickly throw on a jacket and a pair of sweat pants. I try to pull on my shoes before he yelled again. I quickly ran out the door and into Derick. Man do I hate Derick, and don't get me wrong the feelings are mutual.

I try to run past him down the stairs but he catches my hair and drags me to the floor. "Be careful you little whore. You almost stepped on my new shoes." He yells into my ear.

New shoes, I haven't even been shopping since my birthday last year. And even then I only got 20 bucks. As Derick walked down stairs I stayed on the ground. The last time I tried to stand up when he was still next to me he kicked me down the stairs and I broke two ribs. Matt may not beat me but Derick sure does.

I stand up when his door closes again. I walk down stairs and kiss my mom as I walk out the door. I walk to school every day even though Derick has a car. I could already tell this was going to be a horrible day because as soon as I reached the half mile mark it started pouring rain.

I pulled up my hood and took out my headphones so I could listen to the rain. After a few peaceful seconds I heard a car pulling up beside me. I stopped expecting Derick, but it wasn't him. When he realized I wasn't walking anymore he got out of the car.

I had never seen anyone like him. He had lite brown hair and looked fit but not too muscular. His eyes were so bright green they seemed to be glowing. He walked up next to me. "Do you go to Jefferson High School?" he asked I simply nodded my head. "Well do you want a ride?" I looked back up at him.

"Do you know me?" I ask sounding rude but trying not to.

Luckily he didn't think it was rude, he simply laughed. "No I'm just starting today, but I'm pretty good at reading auras and you seem like the kind of person I would like to have as a friend." He gives me the most perfect smile ever.

All I could do was ask, "What's an aura?"

He laughed and put out his hand. "If you let my drive you to school then I'll tell you." I grab his hand and he opens the door as I climb in. He walks to the other side and all I could think about was how many times my mom told me to never get in the car with a stranger. But at this point it may make my life easier as I hear the car start again I snap out of my thoughts.

"So what is an aura?" I ask breaking the silence.

He looks away from the road and at me then back. "Most people can't see it but I'm pretty good at it. For instance your aura shows that you're strong, loving, and courageous." He turns back to me and smiles.

"Ya right, then why do I let my step brother beat me? " I say before I realize what I was doing.

His smile becomes a frown as his eyes get darker. They changed from a bright green to a blue that is almost black. Once he looks in his mirror he snaps out of his anger. "Sorry I just hate people like that." He apologizes.

As we pull into school I climb out of the car. When I walk into school I try to ring some of the water out of my hair. I hang my head low wanting to avoid any and all eye contact. "I'm Weston by the way." Says a voice coming up beside me.

"I'm . . ." I stared but was cut off by a loud voice from somewhere within the crowd of people now swarming the hallway.

"Sabrina get your ass over here now!" I heard Derick yell again from somewhere.

As I walk towards him I feel everyone's eyes on me. Only a few people actually know that Derick and I are step siblings. So I think the fact that he even knew my name shocked a few people. The people that weren't shocked were confused because they don't even know who I am.

When I finally got to Derick he grabbed my hair and slapped me across the face so hard it would have knocked me to the ground if he didn't still have a tight grip on my hair. "Who did you ride to school with?" he yelled.

"No one." I say not wanting to drag Weston into my mess of a life. Luckily Weston was nowhere to be found. Derick struck me again and I hit the cold wet floor this time.
