Chapter 21

“Scarlett, baby. Are you okay?” Saxon held me tight to his body the entire ride to the hospital, never once letting go of me. He just clung to me and smoothed my hair, along with the shirt and sweats he had helped me change into before taking me. I just stared down at my legs, as if I hadn’t heard him. “Scar, talk to me?”

I blinked once and turned my gaze to him. “What if we lose the baby? Will you still want me?” I couldn’t help but notice how empty my voice sounded, and frankly, I didn’t care.

“Why would you ask me something like that?” I saw the hurt on his face, but it still didn’t register. I stared out of the window and blocked everything out. “Scarlett, everything will be okay. You will see.”

I looked down at my stomach, cupping where my baby should be sitting. “I hope so.” Tears slipped down my cheeks and I turned away from Saxon completely. I couldn’t stand to look at him.  He surely hated me now.

“Scar… We are here.” He said after several minutes in silence. I opened the door and stepped out into the cool air, making my way toward the emergency room entrance without waiting for Saxon. “Wait up.” He quickly fell into step next to me and took my hand, making me flinch. Once inside, we walked to the front desk and gave them our information and then sat in the waiting room.

I sat next to a window, staring outside for a moment. A couple came in, holding their baby, and sat down across from me. I looked to them and gave the baby a small smile, feeling my heart throb. I must have been going out of my mind, because I could have sworn I felt my heart begin to ache. I never thought that I could be attached to something, no, someone, so quickly.

“Scar, baby…” Saxon wrapped an arm around my shoulders and kissed my cheek. Tears sprung to my eyes as his sweet gesture made my heart throb. “Talk to me… We are doing this together.”

I swallowed hard, trying to make the knot that lodged itself in my throat go away. “I’m scared.” I whispered as I buried my face into the side of his neck. “I am scared, and I am hurting. What is going to happen now? I am losing my mind.”

“Whoa, whoa. Calm down, baby. I have you. We will make it through this. I swear.” He claimed my lips harshly with this, slowly calming my nerves. “I promise.”

The doctor walked back into the room and smiled at us, kindly. “You have a strong little monkey in there. The baby is just fine, but you will need to be careful for the next couple of days. I would suggest taking up shelter somewhere that this man doesn’t know. I am sure you have contacted the police, and they will search for the man.” I let out a sob of relief and hugged Saxon close, relieved that our small family would not be so easily ripped away from me.

“Thank you, doctor.” Saxon said, giving her the most genuine smile I had ever seen on his face. “We will call my parents and let them know the good news. Is there anything else that we should know?”

She smiled again. “I have prescribed some pain pills for you to take that are safe for the baby. Aside from that, I would suggest that you just relax for the next couple of days. I presume that having sexual relations wouldn’t hurt anything, but I would still be cautious if I were you.”

“We will be cautious, doctor. Thank you. Really.” I said, feeling Saxon’s fingers tightening around my waist.

She looked down at her clipboard and tapped her pen against it. “The nurse will be in here to give you your prescription and then you will be free to leave.” I nodded and looked to my handsome husband, pleased with the relief I saw in his eyes. “And congratulations, Mrs. Bennett. You make a lovely bride.”

I blushed and leaned into Saxon again as she left the room before turning my eyes up to his. “Everything is okay…” I whispered, the news still somewhat surprising. I had been so sure… “I am going to kill him…”

“Whoa, baby, you need to think about your own health.” Saxon said, giving me a look of shock.

I nodded, but what he said did not change anything. “Once the baby is born, I am going to kill him. He almost killed our child. He deserves it.”

“You are just stressed right now… Let the law punish him, not you. I don’t want you to get hurt.”

I just scoffed and looked at Saxon, shaking in quiet anger. “I can’t promise anything.”

I know it is REALLY short. But I have had really bad writer's block and the next chapter will be a lot longer :3 I felt bad keeping you guys waiting. Anyway... so when I started writing this story, I was just a girl with an idea. A story that wanted to put that idea on paper. And I just wanted to thank all of you for your support.
