In a small town, across the river, a large house surrounded by woods stuck out like a sore thumb. The home belonged to the Naile family, a prestigious family at that. The family consisted of their father, Sebastian Naile, the town's best lawyer; their mother, Naomi Naile, a well respected Doctor at the town's hospital; their 10 year old daughter, Liliana Naile, a grade A, beautiful, and talented child; and their 9 year old adopted son, Thomas Zadok, a very complicated child. Rumors had spread through town about the boy, claiming he was a dark and devious child, but to the Naile family, he was their beautiful, wonderful son.

One sunny day, Thomas and Liliana were playing ball in their beautiful backyard. It was no different than any other day the children didn't have school. Their mother was working hard at the hospital and their father resided in his office working on yet another case file. Liliana and Thomas never seemed to mind the lack of presence from their parents. They still ran, laughed, jumped around, and played with the red rubber ball they owned like the children they were. Liliana had caught the ball Thomas tossed to her and she bent her arms to throw the ball back to him. She worked up the energy before thrusting her arms forward, releasing the ball back to Thomas. The ball flew in the air momentarily, traveling forward, past Thomas and straight into the woods. Both the children froze for only a moment before Thomas turned and ran after the ball.

"I got it!", Thomas piped up while running into the woods.

Liliana called out to him, "No, wait!", to no avail.
