Chapter One

Remus Was Right

Snow fell heavily over London, covering a small street that never seemed to get cleared in a blanket of white. A girl walked down the street, houses on her left and a park enclosed by a black iron fence on her right; her hands were deep in her pockets, and her head was down, face covered by short black hair in waves. If you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her face, you might find yourself struck for a moment, and then completely forget about it-except for the nagging feeling at the back of your mind that you had seen something hauntingly beautiful that day, but couldn’t bring that image to mind.

The girl stopped in front of a shabby brownstone, four stories including the ground floor and no doubt a basement as well. The walk up looked icy, and her black boots would offer no grip, but she braved it anyway. For a moment, she stood still, inches from the shabby front door, the silver snake knocker looking at her accusingly-as if it wanted her to leave. But she wasn’t leaving, not yet anyway. Lifting her hand, she gripped the knocker in her fingers and knocked hard so there was no doubt anyone wouldn’t hear. Who anyone was, she honestly didn’t know.

Nothing happened for a few moments, then a gruff voice said from the other side “Who’s there?”

Taking a deep breathe, she said two words the man on the other side of the door hadn’t heard in years “Lucy Quinn.”

The door was yanked open, a man with hair as long as her own and the same eyes staring out at her, wand dangerously close to her chest. “Who are you,” he growled “And what does this have to do with my Lucy?”

Your Lucy?” the girl barked out a laugh similar to his own “We have some chatting to do, Sirius-she’s anything but yours.”

“I will not ask again, who are you?” Sirius Black took in the stranger on his doorstep, wand still out.

“I,” she said “Am Adalyn Black.”

“There is no such person.” Said Sirius, his heart dropping in his chest as he looked closer at the girl.

“Oh but here is, father.” Adalyn smiled as her father’s wand hand dropped to his side, face blank and pale.

“Impossible…” he muttered “Remus-Remus was right.”

“What was I right about?” Remus said, coming out of the living room “Merlin’s beard,” he said “I was right!”

“What were you right about?” coming up behind him, Molly Weasley dropped the plate she had been drying “Good God Sirius, who is this girl?!”

“This,” Sirius choked “Is Adalyn, Lucy and my daughter.”

Sitting in the kitchen of number twelve Grimmauld place, Sirius sat at the table, staring at the beautiful girl across from him. She looked so much like him; the same eyes stared steadily back at him, the same shaped face cocked to one side as she studied him, the same black hair just brushing her shoulders. Adalyn looked so much like him and so much like Lucy at the same time; it was like going back in time to a happier place, hiding up in the kaleidoscopeTower for hours on end, wrapped in each others arms…
