After the blowout with Matt, I had gone to find Daniel, his father, and told him what had happened, knowing that he would put Matt back in his place. His icy blue eyes bore daggers at me from a distance. If looks could kill, I would've been dead awhile ago. Matt's father and his brother, Nick, walked beside me, all of us heading to Matt and his thing.

I found out all about her, the girl who stole my mate.

They had met at Alpha training. Even though she was an Alpha’s daughter, she wasn't' there for training but to help her father. She was 19, younger than Matt but older than me. I was right, she was stupid and had failed out of Alpha training and was now a trainer and she only got that position because of who her father is. I don't even know how to treat her like a person, there's all this hate inside me directed towards her and at this point I feel like the only way I can feel like me again is to inflict some serious pain on her.

We were in the forest that surrounded our pack house. The forest secluded us form everything, the rest of the pack and the humans in the town. It seemed as though the forest was growing trees right in front of us. Almost like it was trying to stop us. The trees are so high up into the sky and close to each other that you can't see were one ends and the other begins. Birds are singing happily but, as we got closer to Matt, it seemed as though their song became darker. The sun was setting, casting the final shadows of the day on the trees and giving the forest an eerie feel. I could hear the water drop and splash from the waterfall to the lake. In the distance, I could make out the pack members houses and the lush gardens that surrounded them.

We stood face to face with Matt and her. Tears prickled my eyes and I started to silently cry as I noticed just how close they were.

How can I see her without hate when shes taking my mate from me.

Matt had always been the object of my affection, the lover I always wanted. I grew up planning my entire life around him. My heart broke at the thought of him never loving me, being with someone else. It was like he flung a knife and it landed on my chest, and then he turned it, over and over.

"Laina has been your betrothed since you were born and not only that, she's your Mate. You will forget this girl and marry Laina," Daniel was heaving and his breathing was labored, his anger was below the surface and it was waiting to get out. Yet he spoke with a smoothness and confidence that only Alphas had.

Matt shook his head and sighed, “I love Marie dad, not Laina.”

Nick pulled me to him and I sobbed into his chest, his hand made circles on my back in a soothing motion and he whispered meaningless comforting words in my ear.  A million and one thoughts going thorugh my mind. How can he love her! She failed Alpha training for christ sake's, she has no postion but the one her dad has given her. Sure I'll admit she's pretty but so am I! I don't see what she has that I don't.

“You loved Laina up until last year! What did this…this girl…do to you?” Daniel pointed at her, spitting the word, and started to pace back and forth throwing murderous looks at Matt and then at her.

Matt sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "I love Laina like a sister but I have never loved her as something more."

Those words made me sob harder, and soon I was hiding myself in Nick’s arms but not before seeing Daniel turn towards me with a pained and pitiful expression.

Then, that girl came forward. “Sir, my name is Marie, and I love your son, and he loves me. If he doesn’t want to marry that girl, then shouldn’t you, as his father, let him marry who he wants and be happy for him?”

Daniel laughed and then his face turned into stone, "You aren't strong enough to lead my pack! Hell you failed out of training and even if you hadn't, you aren't smart enough. So leave your stupid comments for someone who actually wants to hear them."

Marie’s eyes widened, and her mouth hung agape. She was shocked. I'm sure no one had ever talked to her like that before.

"Dad, Marie is the love of my life and she is smart in her own right and older than Laina and just as capable."

My tears dried and I walked out of Nick's arms. I watched as father and son stood face-to-face, glaring at each other. Even though Matt was younger and shorter than Daniel, he radiated power and demanded respect just like his father. Their wolves were demanding a fight; I could smell it.

Daniel smiled at his son. “We aren’t going to fight, but Laina and the girl will, and, if she wins, I’ll take your engagement into consideration.”

He stretched his hand out for Matt to shake. “Deal?”

Matt hesitated, but Marie tiptoed up and whispered something into his ear low enough that I couldn’t hear. He nodded at what she was saying. But she was much too quite for me to hear even with my wolf hearing.

She said one more thing to Matt before he shook his father's hand. “Deal.”
