She gave me a smile, and I knew this was it. This was the moment everything changed, and there was no preventing it. We had our chance, but now the opportunity's gone and there's no going back. You can't turn back time, and you can't just say, "No, I don't want this," and expect a major change. Now's the time to grow up and take another step forward in our lives.

She takes my hand in hers and gives it one last squeeze, my entire cardio system collapsing into my stomach. No matter how much I wanted to deny it, I didn't want this to be "the end"; didn't want the curtains to close.

So I looked at her, and she's staring at me, and when she said my name I felt her hand cupping my cheek.

"It's alright," she kept telling me. "It's alright."

Without thinking, from one fluid moment to the next, I engulfed her in my arms and cradled her head on my shoulder. Here goes the end.
