Chapter Three

I roll over in the silk sheets, my body slipping easily against the expensive material. The tiled floor is cold under my feet as I step away from the bed, tiptoeing away from its occupant and over to the Persian rug that offered warmth for my slowly freezing toes.

I find my gown, a soft brush of Egyptian cotton that fought badly against the cold that crept in from outside, and slip it on over my shoulders. I sneak out across the carpet, following it to the bedroom door where I silently curl my fingers around the handle, trying not to make any noise.

The hallway was lit by a dimly lit lamp that sent a warm pool of light bouncing across the walls. I followed its path, taking a quick left on the farthest hallway door.

Inside a warm fire crackled, its heat calling out to me as it banished away all cold from the kitchen. I walk over to the cupboard, pulling out a cup and cocoa powder. The fridge I raided next, searching for some milk. The microwave thankfully made little sound as I heated my simple winter drink, adding marshmallows to the top.

Settling myself onto a chair by the hearth, I leisurely sipped my drink, watching the burning embers of the fire crackle and spark.

I let my mind wander away and dream about warm smiles and a Wednesday that seemed years away. If only time could speed up.

My eyes slowly drift shut as my minds fantasies evolve and grow, sending me into a light sleep.

Somewhere, feet tap against tile and a person sighs.

‘Oh, Rose.’ A male voice chuckles as my cup was taken from me. Strong arms curl under me, cradling me against a warm hard chest.

The man takes me away, down the hall and back to the room again. He settles me on the silk sheets before leaning down and planting the smallest of kisses on my mouth.

‘Sleep, me dear Rose, and dream for me tonight.’

The Aston Martin pulls up by the bar, rolling to a smooth stop as I unclip my seatbelt and reach beside me for my small clutch. My client grins at me, his eyes twinkling in amusement.

‘Is this where you like to hang out?’ He asks.

‘You’re not the only one with friends in low places.’ I tease, leaning forward and planting a passionate kiss on his mouth. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow.’ I whisper in his ear before climbing out the car.

I glance at him over my shoulder and watch as his mouth curls into a seductive smile.

‘Tomorrow it is.’ He calls out to me as he closes the car door, shaking his head at me.

I grin, before making my way across the road to the dimly lit bar. Inside, patrons slumped in their seats except for a few men playing pool, their arguments drifting over to me above the music.

I found myself snickering as I saw Conner, leaning over the bar and flirting with the young woman behind it. His attempt at seduction failing every time the bartender rolled her eyes and sighed in irritation.

‘Hey, mister.’ I greeted, sliding onto the stool beside him.

Conner grunted a response, turning away from the bartender and smiling at me. ‘Hey yourself, sweetheart.’ He says, twisting his beer between his fingers.

‘How are you?’

‘Eh, same old, and you?’

‘Jetlagged.’ I say, yawning for emphasis.

‘Oh, where’d ya fly?’ He asks as the bartender comes over to me and asks what I want.

‘Black Velvet.’ I say to the bartender. ‘And Canada, for work.’ I say to Conner, watching as his eyebrows rise.

‘You’re lucky, to travel everywhere for work...’ Conner muses.

‘It’s not that fun, really.’

‘I doubt, princess.’ Conner shakes his head as the bartender places my drink before me.

I watch Conner take a swig of his drink, if only he knew.

I did it! This is a bit ruff so I will come back and update it.
