“I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together.” --Lisa Kleypas, Blue-Eyed Devil.

“It’s so bloody cold.” Haley said for the millionth time that night, her teeth literally clattering.

Nathan was walking next to her, Scarlett and Autumn trailing behind them. “Just keep walking, we’re almost there.”

“Seriously, Scarlett, why the hell are we walking in this freezing cold, at one in the night?” Nathan asked. He was rubbing his palms together to keep them warm.

“Take a right here.” Scarlett said, lightly pushing Nathan by the shoulder.

As soon as they took a right, they were greeted by an excited voice. “You finally made it!”

Autumn recognised the voice and after a long time spoke and said “Leah?! What the hell are you doing here?”

Leah was wearing jeans and a blue shirt over which she had put on a white jacket. Her hair was covered by a black beanie.

Leah smiled and held up a large metal key. “I come bearing gifts.” She said.

“What is that?” Nathan asked.

“It’s a key.” Leah said matter of factly. “Also, do I know you?”

Nathan smiled. “I’m Nathan. You are?”

“Your saviour. Name’s Leah.”

“Seriously, Leah, what’s happening here?” Autumn asked.

Scarlett chose to answer that question. “I called her here. I asked her to pull a few strings and get us this key.”

“What’s it for?”

“You’ll see. Let’s go.” She pulled Autumn forward holding her elbow.

They walked a few more steps until they reached a small building. It was clearly not the front side of the since they had entered an alley. There was a small white door which had stains on it. Leah brought out the key again and put it through the key hole. She twisted and turned it for a while until there was a clicking noise. She then pushed open the door. The rest of them followed the sound of her footsteps. It was dark inside since the lights were out, Autumn could hear Haley curse. She assumed that being the klutz that Haley was, she had tripped on something-possibly just air!

“Let me get the lights.” Leah said, as she walked towards her left, trying to find the switch. When her fingers landed on the switchboard, she illuminated the place.

At first, Autumn’s eyes blinked, trying to adjust to the sudden change in the intensity of light, but when she did see, she was flustered.

“An ice-skating rink, really?!” she exclaimed.

She looked at the average sized ice covered rink in front of her. There were chairs and tables to one side in front of the little café. The railings were blue in colour. From where she was standing, she could see a small room shelved with skates and helmets.

“Did we just break into an ice-skating rink?!” Nathan asked, clearly thrilled. “This is so bloody cool!”

“Cool?!” Autumn asked. “We could get arrested!”
