Everything can change in the blink of an eye. I never understood that fully until the day my whole world was tossed upside down.

“What the hell man?” I cursed loudly under my helmet as I swerved around the bad drivers of Berkley, California in route to my job.

I was late, but Austyn and I had gone to bed angry with one another—something we swore we’d never do. I even left without saying goodbye. The guilt had been eating away at me ever since.

I was thinking about what I could do to make it up to her when the taxi came out of nowhere. I didn’t even have time to react before my bike was under the wheels of the taxi and I was mid-air.

It was only a few seconds, but I closed my eyes, praying for her. That she was going to be okay without me. I was coming to terms with my death.

And then my whole body came to terms with the concrete, and everything went black.
