Wow, I'm shocked at myself! A Thursday, and I'm uploading the next chapter? Yeesh, I must be obsessed or something of the such. :-)

Anyway, not much to say, really. This chapter is dedicated to my biggest fans: my family. Their love and support keeps me going in all of my artistic pursuits!

Picture to the right is of another hot guy. 'Tis Chord Overstreet, or the famed Brock Morris! :-)

~Chapter Eleven~

“That was completely unnecessary, you two,” Meaghan hissed, slamming her locker shut. Hayley and Jenna stood on the other side, arms crossed. She stared angrily at them, clutching her books so tightly that she was afraid she would crush them.

Hayley’s bright red hair and voluptuous body matched her personality to a “T.” Fiery-tempered but slow to voice her opinions, she fit in like a puzzle piece, completing the picture of Meaghan and Jenna. Jenna, meanwhile, was a dark, mysterious beauty, with midnight-black hair and vivid blue eyes. She rarely smiled, betraying her bitterness for the world. Traumatic experiences had aged her quickly.

“Maybe,” Jenna said, infuriated boredom coursing through her tone. She inspected a chip in her nail polish, never meeting Meaghan’s eyes. “However, it had to be done.”

“Of course!” Hayley exclaimed, agreeing whole-heartedly. “Alexandra, if he does—”

“Hayley!” Meaghan spat, shocked. “You know that we cannot use those names here! Spies are surrounding us.” The last words were said through gritted teeth, reminding them of the urgent secrecy.

Jenna sighed, rolling her eyes. “We know that, Megs,” she said, annoyance now coloring her tone. “We’re not idiots, unlike some people.” Hayley gaped at Jenna, with Meaghan following suit. Her breath came in shuttering gasps, tears filling her eyes.

“You didn’t…you didn’t really just say that to me, right?”  Meaghan asked quickly, smiling through the sudden pain.

“I did,” Jenna ascertained. She was unapologetic, sneering at her companion. “Why? Did you think I meant a specific person?” She pouted, her dramatic performance forcing Hayley’s mouth to drop further.

Meaghan’s world spun, her trained senses working against her. The echoes of the halls, the laughter of the students, the overwhelming colors of the school…they were dizzying, nauseating. The harder she focused on halting the spiral, the faster it spun. Jeering voices entered her perception. The awful day when she was…when she was…

Meaghan finally gave up, reeling around and weaving unthinkingly through the crowd. She pushed the tears back, a hand clasped firmly over her mouth. An unexpected arm stretched out, stopping her before she lost control and launched into super-speed.

            “Megs? Are you okay? I—”

“Get away from me, River,” she growled, ripping his hand off of her with such force that a cry of pain escaped his lips. She didn’t turn around, running in the opposite direction. She hurtled through the front doors just as the bell rang, flying down the steps and away from the school, away from the agony of memories. She finally let her true self envelop her.

The snicker of Jenna, the hushed gasp of Hayley, and the snarling of her worst enemies reverberated in her ears.
