You look back and watch
As the past turns from you
And runs
Back to empty kisses,
Broken promises
Back to that night
When he lost the light in his smile
The laughter in his eyes
His silence still haunts you
But you force yourself to remember,
So,
You go back and evoke
All the painful memories;
When he fell before your feet
In a crumpled heap, on the floor
And most of all
You remember
Vividly
The way it felt
As he shattered, looking back at you
As he stumbled out the house,
Lifeless—
So you convince yourself
That it hurt to see him that way
You revisit the days
When you were his
And he was your only one,
Back to the days when forever
Was just one kiss away
From an ‘I do’
So now you cry
Clutching your heart
In your undeserving hands
Guilt and regret, thick as the tears
Running down
Your grief-stricken face
Now, you apologise
Every sleepless night
To the floor
Praying to the ceiling
For another chance
To mend things
But that won’t happen
Because he’s already moving on
While the past is still strangling your mistakes,
Forcing you to face the hardship
That comes forth from a bad choice
