“Never stop believing in the power of your dreams.”

I immediately reject the idea as soon as it formed in my head.

A big, fat, resounding No.

I will never do that to anyone. I might be a moron for loving an idiot like Warren, but I am not a user. Besides, it will be unfair for Johannes to be treated like that. He does not deserve to be my emotional rebound.

I will not be like Rachelle, a fake. That is not the kind of girl my mother raised me to be.

“I’m sorry,” I tell him, hoping that my sincerity will reach him. “I don’t date.”

He simply raises a brow. “Well, there’s always a first for everything.”

And then he pulls me – no, drags me out of the room.

“Wha-What are you doing?” I pull back, but he’s strong, and he easily scoops me up and carries me fireman style. I am mortified. “Put me down!”

Johannes chuckles, amused. “Do you even eat? You’re as light as a feather.”

“Seriously!” I pound my fists against his back. “Put me down this very instant! If you don’t, I’m going to scream bloody murder!”

I feel him shrug under me. God, he’s even laughing at me! “Go ahead.”

I let out an ear-piercing banshee shriek.

“Damn, woman!” He finally let go of me, his face sour. “You broke my ear drums!”

“Any problem here?” another voice asks, and we turn to see Irish, one of the lady guards stationed to roam around the school. We call each other on a first name basis, so I guess we are sort of friends. She jerks her head to Johannes. “This guy harassing you, Carla?”

“I – uh…” I think I abused my voice box because I can’t even utter a sound long enough to be a word.

Irish grabs Johannes’ upper arm. “I will have to throw you out, mister.”

“No need.” He makes a childish face as he disengages himself from her hold. “Hey, Number 12, meet me in front. I’ll get my car and if you’re not there in five minutes, I’ll come back and all hell will break loose.”

I watch as he struts away, looking all high and mighty… and expensive.  He even smells expensive. I sniff myself. To my horror, I even smell like him!

“Where did you know him?” Irish asks.

“He’s the guy who won the scholarship in Juilliard.”

“Oh? He’s been hanging around here since you had the accident. Big pest in the butt, I tell you. He scares the kids, but he said he’ll take over while you’re still recovering.”

My mouth opens in surprise. “Really?”

“Well, the headmaster can’t really say no to that dude.”

Why?

My grandfather is a major donor of Bloomingdale.

Could that be true? Still, that doesn’t explain his presence. Why is he here? Why did he do all those? I mean, sure, he seems interested in me, but you won’t do all those stuffs to someone who is nothing more than a stranger. What on earth is he thinking? Better yet, what is he expecting in return?
