Memories from when you were a little girl

When nothing mattered.

The calmess of the ocean,

The brightness of your day,

Were things you didn't notice

Until now.

Now you see

The rough waves,

The darkness.

You see the fights

You hear the words you wish

You never had to hear.

You understand more than you want to.

What used to be so calm

Is now encouraging your stress

To go overboard.

You felt like you weren't

Living life as a teenager.

You thought you needed more fun.

Now here you are,

Lying on the floor,

Eyes closed,

Hand still gripping

That empty bottle.
