STRUGGLE&STRIVE: Backup

They’re talking about dying in there

Right in the room next to mine

They’re talking about debt and college and loans

They’re talking about inheritance

They’re talking about retired life

In a trailer

And I’m starting to realize why

They say my dream job choice

Is impractical

Because it doesn’t bring anything in

Unless you’re a big shot before you start

I keep saying,

“Writers don’t always go to college”

Even though I so want to

And they say that my chances are even worse

Because that means if my plans fail

I have no backup

And life is about always having a backup plan

For when you fail

They didn’t have a backup plan

After the company died

And now we’re stuck in this hole

That never seems to have a bottom

This abyss

It seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel

I’ve always been aware of money

And I’ve tried to be futile

But I had just started loosening up again

Though I think it’s time to start

Pulling the reigns back in

Again

Because this hole is never-ending

I have my one shot at writing

One shot to make it or break it

Otherwise their money will have gone to waste

And currently

I don’t have a backup plan

I don’t want to do anything else

I want to write

And nothing else but write
