What is your writing fuel?

Yes, coffee is my writing fuel, but so are my fountain pens and the lovely colored inks I buy for them

Yes, coffee is my writing fuel, but so are my fountain pens and the lovely colored inks I buy for them.

For a while I've struggled with writing on the computer. Staring at a blank screen is almost certain to give me writer's block. When I write by hand, I find it a lot easier to slip into my imaginary world. Once I'm in the zone, I can watch what the characters are doing like a movie and write it all down.  But when I discovered fountain pens, writing by hand became a whole new experience.

If you've never written with a fountain pen before, there's something almost sacred about it.  The inks behave in ways that regular ball point pen inks don't.  You get shading in your letters as the ink flows on the paper, and sometimes little pops of color you didn't know were there (called sheen in the fountain pen world).

They've brought a tremendous amount of joy to the act of writing for me.  They also call to me.  I can hear them begging me to use them, which is a great motivator to write.

In the picture is my favorite Jane Austen knitting coffee mug, and a small part of my fountain pen collection, which pretty much means I have a fountain pen problem.  But I can't help it.  LOL
