Ugh, my head hurts. I thought when I woke up in the morning. Then I remembered everything that had happened last night and I went to sit up but that only made my head hurt even more. I groaned and laid back down.
"Kimberley?! Kimberley are you ok?," Zack asked leaning over me.
I didn't say anything. I just sat there staring at him. Then everything hit me. Zack is a vampire. My best friend is a vampire. I scooted back up against the headboard and said, " Get away from me!"
Zack reached out to calm me down.
" Don't touch me!," I yelled.
I tried to scoot further away from him but he grabbed me and hugged me tightly to his chest. Well, as tight as he could without hurting me.
" Kimberley, calm down.," he said.
I started struggling, trying to get away from him, but he only hugged me tighter.
I struggled some more and then I just gave up. I sunk into him and started crying. I started rubbing my back trying to calm me down.
" It's ok.," he said.
" Zack, are you serious?," I ask him.
" Dead serious. No pun intended.," he said, laughing a little.
I look at Zack and he stops laughing.
" Look, I'm sorry." he said," But I had to tell you. You're my best friend."
I didn't say anything, I just leaned back into him.
" Kimberley, please don't be afraid." Zack pleaded with me.
" I'm not afraid." I say looking at him again, " I just don't understand." How the hell can you be a vampire?! I scream in my mind. There are no such things as vampires!
" Well, don't feel bad, because I don't either."
" What do you mean, you don't either" I ask , " How can you not understand?"
" Well it's kinda weird how it happened. I was leaving football practice and something attacked me. I got knocked out and when I woke up I thought that I had been attacked by an animal." he said, " but when I woke up I had all these strange powers and I kinda figured out on my own that I was a vampire."
" Oh."
That was all I could think of to say. I mean, what would you say if you just found out that your best friend was a vampire?
We sat there like that for a while. My crying finally came down to hiccupping and Zack went downstairs to get me a bottle of water. When he came back he pulled me back into his arms.
" Ok, so you're not going to college because you're a vampire?"
" Yeah."
" So, what's being a vampire got to do with going to college?"
" Kimberley, I'm much stronger now. I could kill someone out there on the field. I love football and all but I'm not going to go and hurt everyone just so I can play."
" Just don't use all your force. Like Stephen on the Vampire Diaries."
Zack started laughing.
" What?"
" You watch way to much TV."
" So. At least doing that you could still play."
" Ok, if it'll make you happy, I'll think about it."
I give Zack a big hug and say, " Thank you."
