Chapter 5

We spent the last half hour cleaning up her rug. Well, that diminished my chances of ever coming over again. As Liz and I were walking home, she started asking a million questions about earlier, but I hardly said anything. So she shut up. When we got to my driveway, she silently waved goodbye and left. Finally by myself again, I walked up to my front steps and used the key to get in. As I went in the kitchen, there was a not on the fridge door that said:

'Went to go out to eat with your dad. There are leftovers in the fridge. Sorry if if you feel left out, well make it up this weekend. Love, Mom & Dad.~

I ripped the note off of the fridge door and crumpled it up, throwing it in the trash. Noboys ever tells me anything anymore, do they? I took out last night's macaroni -n- cheese and heat it up in the microwave. The house was silent, except for jazz playing in the backround. When the microwave beeped, I got up off the stool and took it out. I ate some. Still tastes as delicious like yesterday. The phone rang. I jumped. Who could be calling at 9:00 at night? Reluctant to pick up, I stopped my hand hand from picking up the phone, then answered it.

"H-h-hello?" I asked, still yawning. There was heavy breathing on the other end. Creepy.

"Hello, Ella." There was a way the voice said it that made my skin crawl.

"Is this- Jason?" A pause.

"Yes, it's me! Who else?" I rolled my eyes.

"Look, Jason, I can't have people talking to me on the phone after bedtime. Its against my parents' rules."

"Hey, were both 10. Relax. Its not like they'd kill you for it."

"I guess not."

"Good. you know Liz and I are a couple now, right?" I sighed.

"Yes, you two were making out at your house earlier. How can I not forget?" I could tell he was grinning.

"Yeah..... can I still come over your house for lessons?" He asked. I shrugged.

"Why not?"

"Excellent! Now, let's be serious.... Liz saw us kill that murderer, right?"

"Well, yeah...."

"What're we gonna do? Do you think she's gonna tell on us?" Jason asked.

"Of course. Maybe not now, but later. She just can't keep her mouth shut forever." I took a big scoop of macaroni on my spoon & shoved it in my mouth.

"So what're we gonna do, Ella?" He asked impatiently.

"I don't know, brainwash her? I mean, we could see until how long she can keep her mouth shut until she tells somebody. Well just wait and see." Silence.

"Good idea. And what if she does?"

"We kill her." We both laughed crazily over the phone. Then I cleared my throat a little.

"But seriously.... what're we going to do to her?" I questioned.

"We could just explain that we killed him for self- defensive purposes."

"Good idea!" Jason yawned, and so did I again. Yawning is contagious...

"Tired?"

"Yep. I'm gonna go to bed now. Well, I guess its goodnite. Bye." I smiled.

"Bye." And then we both hung up.

I lay in bed, restlessly. I couldn't stop thinking about what Jason said on the phone. Sooner or later people will find out, so why worry? My conceince obviously wasn't clean, but that wasn't what bothered me. The fact that Liz & Jason were a thing now did. I never thought it was possible, but its happening now, isn't it? Oh well. I know I shouldn't be poking my nose in other people's business, but I felt there was more to their relationship than just getting close to each other. Especially Jason.

My mom drove me to school this morning again. I really miss walking home to and from school. Anyway, I saw Elizabeth & Jason talking to eachother really close. Grrr... wait, was I jealous? No, no it can't be. Liz & Jason waved to me and I did the same, faking a smile. I ran up to him.

"Hey, guys? Anything new?" They smiled.

"Well, I got an A in science for my project," Liz beamed. I playfully shoved her.

"Showoff," I teased. "How 'bout you, Jason?" He looked down.

"I'm failing math...." We both laughed as he glared at us a little.

We hurried to our lockers as the morning bell rang. Inexplicably energized & happy, I quickly got my stuff and headed towards my home room. Jason sat next to me ( Liz isn't in my room., thank God.) As the teacher took attendance, I scribbled in my notebook about the meeting after school with Jason, and Jason was sleeping, as usual. Today was a regular day, nothing new. Until I heard something odd about what Mrs. Barkley said.

"We have great news students! There will be two new students in our home room and classes today and for the rest of the year. Please welcome Aleaya & Marcus Jones to our class. And they're twins!" We clapped as they sat down near Jason and I. The twins both looked dark-skinned and beautiful. Their hair styles were both neat and put-together well. Jason tried to be friendly with them.

"Hi there. My name's Jason. Nice to meet you & welcome to our school." The girl glared at him and snapped," I could care less." He frowned.

"What's the matter? You don't have to be rude..." the boy stared at him and hissed,"We don't care who you are. And we don't want to be friends with you, loser." Other classmates snickered as the twins smiled. I waited for Jason's reaction, but he did nothing. He just glared at them menacingly as his pencil in his hand snapped......
