 Chapter 10

Kylie's POV

It was a relief to be rid of Kevin for just one period. Or so I thought. To my surprise, I felt something gnawing at me from the inside. Was I missing him? What was wrong with me?

Trish must've noticed how distracted I looked. We were in the same Mandarin class! That was the only good thing about the class actually- it was such a difficult class. I only took it since Mandarin was one of the most widely spoken languages.

"Hey, you! Are you ok?" She asked worriedly. "You seem so distracted."

I smiled. "I think so...and that bump doesn't throb as much." I hesitated. Continuing in a quieter voice, I added "And for some reason, I can't...stop thinking about Kevin."

"Are you sure? That looks painful and...wait a minute. What???" She looked at me excitedly. "Did you say Kevin?"

Trust her to pick that up! What possessed me to say his name anyways? I groaned at her excitement. "Unmm...it's just that I feel so weird around him. You know I've been injuring myself a lot 'cause of him? And he's practically in all my classes...just not this one. Thanks goodness..."

Her mouth was wide open. "Jeez, Kylie. I've never known you to ever talk this much about a guy before. Someone must like him!"

I blushed. "I do not! And focus on the lesson before Mr. Yin comes over!"

We were reviewing some common phrases in Mandarin today. You know- hello, goodbye, where's the bathroom and things like that.

"Class, now that we've went over how to write goodbye. It's time to go over how to write "I love you"." Mr. Yin announced. "Does anyone know how to write..." The classroom door opened. Guess who was it?

Ohmygosh. My eyes had to be deceiving me right? Kevin couldn't be in the same class. He must be dropping something off...he has to be!

That voice in my head came back. "Sure, Kylie. Don't be so silly. Weren't you starting to miss him?"

I wasn't missing him. Nuh-uh. No way.

"Keep deluding yourself...."

Even that voice in my head doesn't agree with me. Sigh.

Kevin smiled. "Hellooooo everyone! Or should I say "Ni Men Hao? I'm Kevin. And I'm a Shuai Nan Zi. Translation- I'm a handsome guy." He winked at me.

I blushed. Stop blushing, Kylie! Trish nudged at me. "Ky, your face is all red. Are you sure you don't like him?" She teased.

I ignored her. "Pay attention!" She smirked. "Changing the subject...." But she became quiet. Everyone was quiet, waiting for what the teacher would say.

Mr. Yin looked impressed. "Your Mandarin pronunciation is quite good."

"Wo Zhi Dao. Wo Xue Le Han Yu Hen Jiu Le. Ni Men Xian Zai Zuo Shen Me?" He replied swiftly.

(Translation- This is in Pinyin! It says. "I know. I learned Mandarin for a long time now. What are you guys doing now?")

Wow. He speaks fluent Mandarin. Better than me...and I'm the best student in the class.

"Well, well. Mister Kevin. We should speak in English since some of the students don't understand what we're talking about. I was just about to ask someone to write "I love you"."

Kevin looked at me. Well, at least I thought he was. He smiled as he answered. "No problem. It's a phrase that I think I want to say to a certain girl..."
