I woke to the sound of rain. I groaned “British weather!” I said with exasperation. I sighed I loved listening to the rain but I wasn’t too happy about getting caught in it. Once I’d decided that I’d spent enough time lying in bed listening to the rain and that I’d finally woken up a bit more I got out of bed. I smoothed out the creases in my pyjamas. I sighed as my feet sunk into the rich soft rug by my bed. The pale creamy mocha colour contrasting the light airy wood of my floor.  I headed out in the search of breakfast. I bounded down the stairs not really caring that I looked a complete mess. I walked into the kitchen to see everyone helping themselves to breakfast. Most were still in their pyjamas but some were already dressed. They all turned and looked at me. The boys laughed at my appearance. Nate smirk and Ethan just smiled walking over to me. Ethan’s arms wrapped around me he leant forward for a kiss. I put my finger tips to his lips. “As much as I’d love to, not until I’ve had breakfast and brushed my teeth.” He gave me a quizzical look. Pete and his brother laughed. Nate was looking at Ethan and I like he didn’t know what to make of it. Sadie was watching it all with a sleepy amusement. Evie and Loryn were giggling and gossiping in the corner. Somehow looking beautiful this time in the morning. Ethan kissed my fingertips making a strange sensation travel up my arm before taking my hand and towing me towards the breakfast cereal.

Pulling the hair band out of my hair groaning as I teased it out of the knotted mess that was a pony tail before I’d gone to bed. I knew my hair was sticking out at odd angles but I didn’t care. When the others sniggered I shot them a disapproving look which made them laugh harder. I moved towards the cupboards grabbing whatever I needed. Vitamins check. Bowl check. Hay fever tablets check. Spoon check. Orange juice check. Jug check. Glass check. Milk check. I went around gathering all the stuff I needed in a random illogical order. I poured the orange juice into the glass and took a hay fever tablet. The single tiny tablet was the thing that stopped me sneezing every 5 minutes. I carried on with my breakfast preparations all the while musing about how something so small could stop a day of annoyance.

“What were those tablets and do they always make her this drowsy?” I heard Nate ask as I put my half-drunk glass of orange juice into the microwave instead of the jug of milk. I could almost hear the smirk in his voice. It was strange as it held some concern as well.

“They’re for hay fever. And nah. She’s generally like this in the morning.” Steven said with a laugh. He and Ethan were so like each other but so different. I groaned and mumbled some vague insult at him. I corrected my mistake putting the jug of milk in the microwave and drunk the rest of my orange while the milk heated up. The others laughed at my half-hearted attempt at getting back a Steven via insult. He came up beside me slinging his arm around my shoulders. “You know it’s true.” I dipped my head in acknowledgement and poured my cereal of choice of rice snaps. I sprinkled sugar or the sweetener substitute on it. I don’t know which it was and to be honest who cares in the morning?

I ate my cereal quietly while the others talked around me. I took my bowl to the sink and dropped it in. Not bother by the fact the front of my pyjamas was now thoroughly soaked I moved around the room in a daze. No one said anything until I tried to put the cereal box in the fridge. Pete stepped in taking it out of my hands and putting it back in the correct cupboard. “I forgot how bad you are in the mornings.” He said smiling down at me. God has he always been this tall?! While I was preoccupied by how tall he was the others looked round sharpish. “Not like that! God. I’m a friend of the family. I used to spend days round here when her brother was…” He cut off at the look I sent him. No one here knew about my brother and I’d prefer no one to.

“Brother?!” I heard everyone ask except Pete and curiously Nate.

“Yeah my brother Shane and I’d rather not talk about it.” I sighed shooting a glare at Pete who was looking guilty and sheepish. “I’ll explain another day but not now.”
