People say curiosity killed the cat, if curiosity can kill a cat what could it do to us? People are just greedy. They search for knowledge without thinking of the consequences. Now look what’s happened. They went to the stars in search of answers, solutions to our problems but made more problems. The problems their searching for solutions made were even worse than the problems before. They came to us ‘apparently’ to help but what has it done to us? They’re in charge now; they have been for some time without us knowing converting people as they went along. It all started as disappearances nothing unusual to draw the general public’s attention. Life went on as normal until recently. The disappearances became more conspicuous and they made the fact that they were in charge very well-known and if you didn’t know you were a fool. There’s a curfew- more for our safety than theirs. If you were stupid enough to go out at night you deserved whatever became of you-, specific jobs for people, you can only be what they want you to be, and they’re more or less free to do what they want.

I was different to everyone else. I didn’t know why at the time but I was different. When they looked at me they sensed something; they couldn’t explain it and neither could I. They approached me at first wanting to turn me into a soldier. To convert me. I’d rather die than become one of them; disgusting cannibalistic creatures, at least in the beginning. The Elders are something different not the mindless eating machines only stopped by sunlight. No the Elders are different. They can go out in the day for one thing and look more like us. Creamy skin not the blue-ish tinged of the newly converted. The ‘induction period’ (as they call it) is the ugliest time, when you completely lose any humanity after the first three years you start to come back but its several years if not more when you reach the humanness of the Elders. The Elders although the nearest to human any of them are and the first to come to our planet are still so foreign. Stronger, faster and more intelligent. Some apparently have gifts whether that is true or not remains to be seen. The only concession, I guess you could call it, is that they promised everyone in the beginning that they wouldn’t change anyone under 18. Strangely enough they have kept their word. Honour is strong in them. That meant I had two years to live my life and create safety for what’s left of my family. Two years seems like it could be a long time but time goes fast. Much faster than you’d want it to or expect it to.
