Chapter 3

“I think that’s our final version,” Emma announced proudly. “Tadadadaaaaaaaa, may I present: Our very own senior year at Jefferson High bucket list!”

About time. We have been working on that list for over two hours. Two very long hours. Who knew writing a list could be this exhausting?

I stared down at the piece of paper in front of us.

This was it; our bucket list for the last year of our high school life.

****

Sarah’s and Emma’s bucket list for the last year of our lives as high school students

-          Have a food fight

-          Try out for cheerleading

-          Skip school for one day

-          Get detention

-          Get send to the principal’s office

-          Volunteer for a school activity

-          Kiss the new guy

-          Help someone other than our friends

-          Crash a party

-          Throw a party

-          Join a club

-          Make out with a random guy at a party

-          Toilet paper someone’s house

-          Show some serious school spirit at a game

-          Ask a guy out on a date

-          Sing in the cafeteria

-          Make new friends

-          Show disruptive behavior in one of our classes

-          Kiss the quarterback after a game in front of the whole school (PDA)

-          Rotate between tables in the cafeteria

-          Be the number one topic of the rumor mill

-          Become the candidate for some school committee position

-          Play a prank

-          Go to the winter ball stag

****

Yeah, it was a pretty long list. But the beauty of it: If you do it right, you can combine several tasks and get them all done and over with at once. For example, “skip school” – “get send to the principal’s office” – “get detention”.

A package deal. Sweet.

I’m the first to admit that maybe some of our tasks seem to be pretty stupid. Who in their right mind wants to get detention? Any normal student tries to avoid it as much as the indefinable stew that is served in our school cafeteria during winter.
