AHANA'S SMILE was a flicker of surprise as she regarded the raven-haired boy with specs. "You're on time."

James nodded quickly, his demeanor skittish, fingers fidgeting with his wand as he bit his lip nervously. Sensing his unease, Ahana approached, her hand finding its place on his shoulder, halting his restless movements. "Hey, are you alright?"

Their eyes met finally, James's expression revealing a mix of apprehension and determination as he pursed his lips before speaking. "Tej? Can I ask you a favor?"

Caught in a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, Ahana wrestled with her inner thoughts. Why entertain the request of someone she hated so much? Yet, a pang of sympathy tugged at her heartstrings, softening her resolve. She chewed on her lip, contemplating her response.

"Fine," she interjected, cutting through his wavering words. James's eyes sparked with a glimmer of hope, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Really?"

"Yes, really," she affirmed, raising an eyebrow in silent challenge. "But what is this about?"

James launched into his request, his words tumbling out in a rush as he explained his predicament "I need you to let me skip patrol today."
