Mason pov

I was sitting at home on the sofa in our living room, my parents prepared dinner, Sarah wanted to introduce us to her new boyfriend, when the last one broke up with her it was a disaster, she wasn't herself for two weeks, that was three weeks ago, since he broke up, not that she made a drama out of it. She isn't very lucky with men, they either break up with her or cheat, or it simply doesn't fit. Every single one of her relationships just last a few months, I would be sad for her, but I got used to it by now. My longest relationship lasted a bit more than a year, before he lost his mind and treated me like shit.

I was done with dating for a while, and her new boyfriend didn't help

"Hey ma, dad! That's my new boyfriend, Avan.", she walked into the living room, excited to introduce him.

He was one of the prettiest guys I've ever met, tall, quite sporty, light blue eyes and messy short blonde hair. I looked away when he noticed me, he smiled and shook his head.

"I'm Avan. Nice to meet you.", he shook my parents' hands.

"Hello, I'm John this is my wife, Jane.", my dad shook his hand too.

"Who's that?", he looked at me.

"Mason, you can ignore him, he's a bit weird but harmless."

"And a bit shy apparently.", he laughed when I blushed.

We all sat down, and they talked with my parents, explaining how she met him last week and what they plan for the future, nothing new, just the same as with the exes.

A few times Avan looked at me, smiling. He had to try not to laugh at me blushing, I played with my fingers to calm down again. I didn't know why but he made me nervous.

"Dinner is ready!", my mom called from the kitchen.

"Let's go, dwarf.", he looked at me.

"I'm as tall as you.", I stood up looking into his eyes.

"If you count the height of your 80s curls too, maybe.", he broke the few seconds of silence and petted my head.

"Don't start a fight you two!", Sarah interrupted.

"Don't worry, I don't fight twigs."

"Lovely guy you dragged in Sarah.", I sat down with a smile.

"I see, if he talks, he's rude."

"Just if you provoke me.", I played with the fork with my lips.

We didn't talk much during the meal, just a bit of small talk. Later I sat back on the sofa, shortly after joined by the others. Avan sat next to me in the middle, one arm around Sarah's waist the other behind my head, I tried to move away but he pulled me back.

"Are you scared of contact? Come here I won't bite.", he laughed.

"Told you he's weird. Try to get along with him, Missy."

"Missy?"

"He's a bit girly."

"I don't see anything wrong with that."

"Maybe you should do a game night, play video games and stuff. Maybe he becomes normal, then."

"Sounds great. What do you think, Mason?", Avan shook me a bit.

"If I have to."

"Great. What about Saturday? Me and the girls wanted to go to the mall. Doesn't have to be in the evening, right?"

"Sure."

"Fine."

I didn't know if I should've been excited or not, on one side he made me nervous, and I liked it on the other I knew it couldn't end in a good way. The rest of the week he was there every day, I didn't talk much, we just exchanged a few looks. He always smiled at me, but I just tried to avoid his eyes.
