T'Rina is half Vulcan half Betazoid, she grew up on Earth though living across the road from her childhood friend Tom Paris.
T'Rina and Tom went to the Academy together and even dated for awhile, they were even stationed on the USS Phoenix together for two years when Tom was involved in the shuttle accident which he covered up and then told the truth about.
Tom was kicked out of Starfleet but he and T'Rina continued dating when he stopped contacting her and next thing she hears is that he's in prison, T'Rina is given an undercover mission on the Val Jean not long after her transfer as Second Officer on the USS Voyager.
Where she meets Tom Paris again.
T'Rina and Tom are stuck on Voyager in the Delta Quadrant where they agree to at least try and be friends eventually they reconcile their romantic relationship.
