"Now this is an interesting development.” Professor Dumbledore mumbled as he took a cupcake from the box.
“What do you mean?” You asked, furrowing your brows.
“Oh, nothing. Just something I noticed.” He smiled but didn't elaborate further. You couldn't help but feel like he knew something you didn't, and it left you feeling uneasy. Despite that feeling though, you were still happy to be spending time with Severus (He was behind you, seemingly wanting to get away as soon as possible).
“Well…what did you notice Professor?” You ask, hoping he will reveal something new.
“I see that you’re beginning to collect quite a variety of companions, (Name).” He said with a knowing smile. You looked back to see Severus offering a slightly uncomfortable smile of his own.
“Please don’t say ‘collecting’ like it’s a card game. They’re their own people, Sir.” You replied.
“No of course not, I hope that you didn’t take offence gentlemen. I merely find (Name)’s presence at our school somewhat entertaining. I meant no disrespect.” Dumbledore told to your male friend who only nodded in response.
You couldn’t help but smile as you watched the exchange. Dumbledore had a way of diffusing tension that made it seem effortless. You were suddenly brought out of your admiration when you felt a slight tugging at your sleeve. Glancing up, Severus was looking at you with an earnest expression on his face.
“15 minutes before my class starts, I'll be going ahead.” He said, looking somewhat hesitant.
“Oh, okay. I'll see you then.” You responded with a smile, although you couldn't help but feel concerned about his sudden departure. He gave his goodbye and walked away, your eyes trailed after him until you realized that Dumbledore was still standing in front of you with an amused expression on his face.
“What is it, Professor?” You asked, feeling slightly embarrassed by his gaze.
“It seems that young Severus has taken a liking to you.” He said with a knowing smile.
“Are the cupcakes good professor?” You asked, trying to change the subject.
Dumbledore chuckled, “Indeed it is!
I do have a sweet tooth, as you may have noticed.”
He reached out and took one of the cupcakes, a mischievous glint in his eye. “As it happens, I do have something for you.” He said as he handed you a letter.
“What's this?”
“A letter from your parents. I have not read it nor have I opened it, you're the first to read it.” He gave you a smile, you mirrored his smile and took it in. You briefly read the letter and the good news, is they found a way to fix it, it may take them some time but hey, at least they're working on it.
