Chapter 5

We moved back as the police carried out Alessia’s corpse. From what I heard, a girl in my class found her dead body with a pool of blood on the ground.

“Who would have killed her?” I thought. The girl is something else but still.

“You!” Pamela one of Alessia’s friend/minions confronted me pointing her finger at me

“I know you killed her” she accused. “Who knew you would be serious after threatening her?” she remarked

I did not threaten her. I only gave a warning. I had apologized just as mum said.

She even told Kayode to video me. After my sweet sincere apology, Alessia spat water on me. Out of anger and disgust, I pulled her hair that this was going to be the last time this week I would clean up myself because of her.

I warned her that if she tried rubbish with me, she wouldn’t be able to tell the story. Even after my warning she still poured my food away for the third time that week. Abeg she I threaten her? No be warning I give?

“Let’s correct things Pamela” I said. “I didn’t kill Alessia, like what would I gain if I did?” I continued

“Freedom from her bullying but would killing her be my only option” I said answering my own question

“Abeg(Please)! Stop pouring your dishonesty into our cups, they are overflowing” Pamela rudely remarked

I eyed Pamela and hissed. That girl was rude. The saying “Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are” just made sense

Kayode came running to our class
“The investigators want to interrogate you” he said panting

“She doesn’t need interrogation we all know she’s the culprit” Adediwura another of Alessia’s friends loudly blurted out

I followed Kayode down the elevator to the staff room where the investigators were waiting

“Good morning, Miss Yemisi” the investigator greeted

“Good morning” I greeted taking the seat opposite the man

“From what I’ve been hearing Miss Yemisi, you threatened the victim yesterday. So I would like you to answer the following questions truthfully” he told me

I wanted to argue that I didn’t threaten her but I kept my mouth shut

“Can you describe the nature of your interaction with the victim on the day before the incident, and did any disagreements or arguments occur?” he asked

“I apologized to her that day for slapping her on Wednesday. She spat water on me and I pulled her hair and gave her a stern warning” I answered

“Were there any witnesses to the confrontation or threats made towards the victim?” he asked

“Everyone in class saw it including my brother” I answered

“Did you have any reason to be upset or angry with the victim leading up to the incident?” he asked

“She’s been a bully” I answered

“Can you provide any communication records or messages exchanged between you and the victim on that day?” he asked

“Not really but you could ask my brother. He filmed my apology to Alessia to prove I did exactly what my mum told me but I don’t know whether my warning was part of the video” I answered

“Have you ever had conflicts or altercations with the victim prior to this incident, and if so, can you explain the context and details of those situations?” he asked

“Yes, on Wednesday this week during Physical Education she pushed me into the mud.” I replied

“Thank you, Miss Yemisi, you may leave” the interrogator said finally

I smiled and left

I met Kayode upstairs in his classroom. “School is closed for today” he said. “I picked up your bag and called Mr. Johnson. Let’s go home” he said

“KK” I replied

As we were leaving, I saw a figure suspiciously get on the elevator

“Kayode” I called

“I noticed too” he said. “Let’s find out who it is” he continued
