a leaf floating through air
silence
not quite as bright
nor harsh
as the sun's shining glare
silence
a caress of moonlight, reaching, reaching
silence
not quite as loud
nor sharp
as human screeching
silence
soft glow of stars
kind and forgiving
not quite as cruel
as cold ice creeping
not quite as sharp
as the cool stone spire
not quite as fast
as spring frogs leaping
not quite as lethal
as the mad blaze of fire
not quite this
not quite that
silence
silence, cool and warm and soft and stiff
silence, dark and bright, tethered yet adrift
silence, nothing and everything, all at once
