February 2019

I sat quietly on my couch, I had been binging Bridgerton for the past couple hours. My agent constantly flooded my inbox with auditions, and after leaving the house every other day to go to auditions, it was nice to take a break and actually watch something. I got up from the couch to go make more popcorn, and as I got back to the couch, I could hear the buzzing of my phone. I quickly put my popcorn down and picked it up.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hi. This is Rob Marshall, I'm looking for Ariel?"

"Sorry what?"

"Im looking for Ariel, the mermaid?"

Holy crap, Is he talking about me?  A couple weeks ago, I had gone in and auditioned for the part of Ariel in Disney's Live Action remake. I wasn't expecting anything at all, due to all the big actors that were there auditioning. It occurred to me that this may be a prank call, but I was not going to risk it. I decided to respond in a friendly manner.

"Oh umm, could that be me?" I asked, a slight chuckle following.

"I guess so!" He laughed.  "I'm just kidding. It's me, Rob Marshall, and I'm calling to let you know that you've been cast as the role of Ariel in the Live Action Little Mermaid! Your audition was truly extraordinary and we would love to have you on our team.  Would you like to accept the role?"

"Are you serious? How?- Yes of course! Yes! Thank you so much sir! I would love to accept. "

"Oh, please. Rob is just fine." He let out a chuckle from the other end of the phone. "An email will be sent to you shortly with all the information and the schedule. However I do need you to come meet the rest of the cast next week at a lunch! it's February 18th, can you make it?"

"Yes of course I can! Thank you so much sir- I mean Rob."

"Alright then, then that information will be in the email too. Thank you so much for joining our team. Goodbye! And congratulations once again." He hung up the phone.

I put my phone down and couldn't help but squeal with joy! After this long audition process I was just ecstatic to get the role. A ton of questions flooded into my mind: Who was cast with me?  What would the media think?

The first thing I had to do was call my mom and tell her the news.

The phone buzzed, the ringing of the phone perceptible.

"Hello?" My mother's comforting voice answered at the other end of the line.

"Hi Mom! Ok, you will never believe it, but you know all those auditions I was going to?" I was overflowing with excitement.

"Yes of course, your poor child. Your agent has put you through so much! "  Mom replied with a chuckle., "I know how exhausting its been for you, but what about them?"

"Well... A lot of those auditions were for Disney, and I got the part of Ariel!!!" I couldn't help but let out a laugh.

"WHAT?? That's fantastic! Are they doing some kind of remake? You know, it really dosen't  matter. Oh my gosh sweetie, I'm so proud of you! I always knew that you could do it and now," Her voice trembled. "now, the world is going to see that you can do it too. " I could hear my mom's voice crack with tears.

"Oh don't cry mom, really, just be excited! Anyways, I have to go but I love you so much, and I will update you on everything!   Love you! Bye! " I clicked the end call button and put the phone down.

It suddenly hit me for the first time that now, I was the little mermaid. I had waited years for an opportunity like this, my big break, and now that opportunity had finally arisen.
