The Pretender
by sloanranger
Struggling for love and the legal tender,
say a prayer, for the pretender.
Takes a walk in the night -
watching the fight -
he started out fine, but surrendered.
Packing his lunch as each day begins,
he works and talks with friends;
and when evening rolls around,
he lays his body down, and
morning, he'll get up & do it again - Amen.
Gonna find a girl who knows what laughter means,
fill his world and paint-by-number dreams.
Their hearts taking flight -
as they run through the night,
they won't stop in midstream.
And they'll put their dark glasses on -
make love till their strength is gone;
and when light of morn comes in -
they'll get up and do it again -
get it up again - Amen.
