Failing The Book:

Was I even a good person?

When we first started dating,

I read a hundred online guides,

On how to be a good boyfriend.

In the end,

I followed none of them.

One told me;

Make it seem like you're trying,

But always let your partner win.

That's so stupid I thought,

Cause I wouldn't win anyway.

You'd beat me in a race,

You'd beat me in a wrestle,

You'd beat me at cards,

You'd beat me at anything that wasn't poetry.

And even poetry,

Honestly, that's just me hoping.

Well,

Another said to me;

Shower them in luxury.

But I can't imagine you sitting still,

For an expensive five-course meal,

Or a date at an art gallery;

I don't have the money, anyway.

So I guess you saved me?
