To The Friends That Didn't Stay

A Poem For You (2019)

I guess I never got to thank you,
I must seem as ungrateful as can be.
I'm not good with expressing my feelings,
But you mean the world to me.

You were there when we were kids,
You were my only friend at school.
You were always by my side each day,
When all other people were cruel.

Every time someone upset me,
Or when someone would break my heart.
You were the only one to stick around,
every time my world fell apart.

We have so many amazing memories,
And I guess it's now I realise;
That it's been you all along-
My best friend in disguise.

You've been though my every high,
And my each and every low.
And out of everyone to understand,
It's always been you to know.

You always get how I feel-
You know what makes me cry.
You know what triggers my anxiety,
Without you I would never get by.

After all the people who hurt me,
And done all they wanted to do.
Who was there to mend my heart each time?
Of course, it's always been you.

And then I locked my heart away,
Kept safe under lock and key.
I stopped loving everyone,
And I didn't let anyone love me.

But why should I have to punish you?
You did nothing wrong.
You have been the one to never give up,
You've stood by my side all along.

I may not get to talk to you much,
But we have a bond like no end.
You never judge me no matter what,
I'm so proud to be your friend.

I hope it lasts a lifetime and longer,
I pray that you don't leave.
Because I want to be there by your side,
Being proud of all you achieve.

I know I may not be much,
And I can't express my gratitude too clearly.
But I promise with my heart and soul,
I care about you dearly.

Thank you so much for being a friend,
I'll be grateful forever and a day,
And I hope you're different to the others,
I hope you never go away.
