Aaron's P.O.V.

There wasn't exactly an explanation from Allison on what to do when your assigned person hated you. Somebody forgot to tell me.

That wasn't the first time. They basically told me squat. I had to figure it all out by myself. They dropped me off in front of a school, leaving me to find Lila. And no one told me what class she was in, or what floor, or anything.

"Good morning," I greeted when she woke up. My only response was a glare and a slight scowl. So far, there was no change in her behavior, which bugged me.

"All right, look. What do you want me to do? Kill everyone that's mean to you?" I asked, my eyes following her steps around the room. She groaned and crossed her arms over her chest.

"You know what? No. But I want you to do something more than just stand there and make sarcastic comments. Okay?" Lila said, her face softening a bit.

"Fine." I'd show her.

Lila's P.O.V.

"Afternoon, spazz."

"Wassup, lose-a?"

The usual greetings rang in my ears. There was one thing that blocked it all out, a low mutter in my ear.

"Remember, you don't care what they say. You're spunky, beautiful, sweet Lila Grace. You're invinsible," Aaron told me repeatedly.

"Beautiful?" I whispered out of the corner of my mouth, a smile creeping on my face.

"Ehm," he said, clearing his throat.

"You got the hots for me?" I joked, once we were alone at my loser table.

"No!" he answered, a bit too quickly. A look of fear flashed into his eyes.

"What? I don't bite," I told him reassuringly. My laugh made him exhale slowly and silently. He shook his head.

"It's not that."

"Then what's your issue?" I questioned. "You look like you've just seen a ghost." It was true; Aaron's face was pale as paper, white as his wings.

"Just...Don't bring it up again, okay? Even if it's a joke," he commanded. I rolled my eyes and shrugged.

"Whatever."

"Promise me."

I raised my hands in defense, my eyebrows lifting with caution at the authority in his voice. "Fine. Pinky swear," I mumbled, which seemed to make him content. What was his problem? It's not like I was saying anything wrong, right?

"Talking to yourself again?" someone inquired with a snicker. Kay and company.

"Hey, look! I didn't know they made life-size Barbies!" I challenged. The sudden power in me was surprising. Kay must've thought that too, because she laughed, sounding very nervous.

"Barbies are pretty and can do anything," she responded, crossing her arms. Was that fear I saw in her eyes? The newfound defense surged through me as I smirked.

"Is that why your week-old boyfriends dump you after they get to see the goods?" I asked. Kay gasped.

"They do not!"

"Yeah. I don't know, maybe your stuff doesn't meet their expectations."

Aaron put a hand on my shoulder. "Okay, go easy. Don't take it too far," he warned.

"Look, I don't have time to play your stupid games, Kay. Don't you have to go sweet-talk your way through high school or something?" I asked. Kay stomped her foot. Everyone was looking at us now.

With a swift movement, her high heel stomped on my toe.

"Really?" I inquired, rolling my eyes. "I've had four years of karate, darling. Take a shot." I held up my hands and made a little wall covering my face. Kay smirked, and her fists pounded into my palms. Some snickers were being directed at Kay.

"That means nothing!" she finally whined. "You don't even know what I'm capable of, Lila!"  She tried stomping on my feet again, but her arms were suddenly pinned behind her back.

"Hey, what're you-" she cried, trying to break free.

"The principal wanted you," a familiar voice stated.

Aaron? What was he doing? And how was he doing it? He looked completely human, just a handsome face in the cafeteria.

He winked at me. "He wanted me to escort you to his office. C'mon," he said, talking to Kay again. He lifted her off the ground and over his shoulder.

Watching Kay was completely priceless. She banged her fists into Aaron's back and tried to kick him. The whole student body was now laughing at Kay. The roles were reversed. Kay was the laughingstock of the school. I could get used to that.

Kay's friends walked over and took the seats by me. "How'd you do it?" a redhead demanded, leaning in. Her straight hair flowed on top of the table. Her eyes were searching mine, as if staring at me could find me the answer.

"Never mind that. We could use you with us. Together, we can take Kay down as quickly as she rose up," she said. "Are you in?"

I grinned and nodded.

"Good. We'll meet here tonight. Seven P.M. sharp."
