Gawpers and loafers, mainly, wandering aimlessly,

The great monuments a backdrop for tourist memories.

At their feet sat the dispossessed: slight, raven-haired,

Dirt under nails, a quiet defiance in stiletto smiles

As she begged for change and a friendly word,

Her youthful, gypsy beauty breaking on the street.
