I wake up, exhaustion stinging my eyes. My I phone buzzes with messages from Emily.  I  shower and dress quickly, throwing on my crumpled uniform and I curl my hair for once. I check my phone, once more. The messages are more frantic now, demanding my attention.

Emily: I can't come to School today, Lucy.  I frown in confusion, Emily usually had 100 percent attendance, generally, she was a straight-A student, without even really trying.                                       Lucy: oh no. Are u ok?    I type back instantly.                                                                                                          Emily:  not really, I'm not feeling great, I probably have a 24-hour bug. should be back tomorrow.   Emily was right, in our school there was an illness going around, it only lasted a day. l I push It to the back of my mind after sending one last message.                                                                  Lucy: K, I hope that you feel better soon, gtg

It is a really strange feeling walking through the corridors without Emily by my side, I feel like an outcast and a loner. I feel the gaze of passing students. I turn my head around the other way and hurry to Geography, It's the first class of this year.
