Chapter 7

                                Evelyne's POV
*Phone Call with Jace*
"H-hey."

"Oh thank god! I thought she was joking! W-where were you?!"

"No idea."

"You're in Kansas."

"Carrie just told me I'm in Kansas."

"Fuck! Okay. What hospital are you going to?!"

"I dunno. All I know is, I'm in an ambulance."

"Did you call your family?"

"Yes. Then I asked to call you. I figured you'd be worried."

"Yeah! You were right!"

"No offense but, your cousin's a dick."

*Jace chuckles*

"Yeah I know. Once again. I'm sorry about that."

"I hope I'm not scared of you now."

"Oh god. What do you mean by that?"

"Jace..he..he kept raping me. I told him to stop."

"JESUS CHRIST!"

"He shot me too. My shoulder is killing me. I don't feel so good either."

"Shit! Fuck! Shit! Do you want me to go to you?"

"I-if you want. I'm not sure if they'll let you see me."

"I should at least try. Right?"

"True. How long was I gone?

"You don't know?"

"No."

"You've been gone for 11 months."

"S-so I missed the school year?"

"Okay that's the last thing that should be on your mind right now."

"Do you know if I'm still 16?"

"No. You're 17 now. You missed your birthday."

"Y-you remembered?"

"Yeah. You always had your locker decorated."

"Hey, I have to go. I'm at the hospital. I'll see you when you get here. Sound good?"

"Yeah. I'll be there as soon as I can."

*End of Phone Call*
I handed the phone back to Carrie.

"Thank you."

"Is he your boyfriend?"

"No. He's just a friend. This is all his cousin's fault. I dated him for two years. He's tried to kill me already. Jace and his brother Harvey saved me."

I was brought into the ER. I was admitted then brought to surgery. I woke up in the hospital. I looked around and saw I was alone.

Guess my family isn't here yet.

I should tell Jace how I feel the next time I see him.

That sounds good.

I saw my right arm was in a sling. I was still tired so, I went back to sleep. I heard running and opened my eyes.

"Evelyne!"

I sat up and saw Jace.

"Hey! You got here quick!"

He ran over to me and hugged me.

"I drove all night. Your mom's almost here."

"Damn. You beat her here?"

"Believe me. I'm shocked too."

He sat at the end of the bed.

"So..I have something to tell you."

                               Jace's POV
"Same here. You can go first though. This must've been killing you."

Her face turned red.

"Well...I've done a lot of thinking. I-I realized that I chose the wrong guy. I-I should've picked you."

"Are you tryna tell me something?"

She looked away.

"I-I love you."

My eyes widened.

Now I confess.

"I-I love you too."

"Y-you do?"

"Yeah. I've kinda always had a thing for you."

She looked at me.

"Really?"

"Mhm. I'm pretty sure Bryce knew that. Even without me telling him."

"So..when you said someone would want me, you were talking about you, weren't you?"

My face started to heat up.

"Uh. Well...erm. Yeah. Basically. I-I don't want to push you into anything. I-I'm assuming you're not ready for anything."

"I'm not sure if I'm ready. But can we try?"

"Yeah. If you want."

"So how was the drive?"

"Long and tiring. I haven't slept yet. How do you feel?"

"Like shit. I've been shot and assaulted. I feel disgusting."

"Crap. My bad. I didn't think of it that way."

"You're fine."

"Do you remember anything?"

"Yep. Every goddamn thing."

She told me everything he did to her.

I feel like throwing up.

"I woke up in an ambulance. I had them call my mom, my brother, then you."

"Every time an unknown number called, I answered right away."

"H-how is everyone?"

"Lyn you need to worry about you."

"I just feel bad. I scared everyone."

"That's not your fault. My brother and I got in my car right away. We followed you guys for like, 2 hours. We lost you guys when, a train cut us off."

She held her good arm out.

"I wanna another hug."

"I'm coming. I'm coming."

I made the decision to just lay next to her.

"This works too."
