The Wise Dame

I still my beating heart

For I am much wiser now

So I shall stand against love

Never again will I bow

My guard will not falter

My shield’s raised high

I was foolish once

Believing it’s every lie

I must stay strong

Dear heart, don’t let me fall

For it’s taken far too long

To build this fragile wall

I mustn’t stare long

I see with a fool’s perception

Love looks so beautiful

Such a cruel deception

I crumble to the ground

Landing on shaky knees

My will falters at its touch

Infecting me with its sick disease

I beg of you, love

Please, oh, please stand down

Are these tears not reason enough?

Or do you prefer I cry ‘til I drown

Fine! Take my heart, monster

Are you happy to win?

Just please, please don’t break it

I couldn’t bear that pain again

In defeat I stand and watch

As my defenses go up in flame

All that's left is this love

And me…The Wise Dame
