Chapter 34: Rules (Michael's POV)

She turns to look at me as the question slips from James.

I glanced at him and shook my head softly when I realized he was looking at her, not me.

"Don't shake your head at her, Woods," he barked. Oh. Angry James. Really angry James. Okay.

She glanced at me again, whispering, "I have to."

"Amelia, don't," I said sternly.

"If it's you, just admit it, Lia. And if it's another girl, then don't cover for him," James insisted.

"James," I cut in, "you don't know what you're talking about. If she tells you the truth, we'll be here explaining for a long time, so just—"

"Is it you or not, Amelia?!"

"Stop yelling at her!" I demanded, my own voice rising, which it rarely ever does. I yell sometimes at people when I lose my mind but never have I ever lost control over myself. When I'm yelling at someone, I know it. And I know where to stop and leave the room. But if James here keeps yelling at her then I might just snap. "James," I warned, my jaw ticking as he interrogated Amelia.

She rolled her eyes, leaning back and ignoring him.

"Lia!" he exclaimed.

"What?" she asked calmly.

"Is it you?" he sighed in defeat. Honestly... I feel bad for him. His job is on the line too with this mess that Vince created. James is only the manager, there's an entire board of directors who call the shots and I'm sure if James can't get the situation under control, he'll be fired. "If it is, just tell me. At least I'll know before the world. We'll find a solution, guys come on, help me out here, for fuck's sake."

Amelia glanced at me and I could see the guilt and pity in her eyes.

"Amelia," I pleaded.

"It is," she said, facing him. "It's me. In the pictures."

James let out a breath, closing his eyes and throwing his head back. The room fell into a silence that was so suffocating, it genuinely felt like vines were wrapping around it, slowly taking our breath away. "Why?" he asked. "What's happening here? Drunk hook-ups? Casual hook-ups? Or are you both really together?" He looked between us, seeking the answer from me this time.

"We're together," I answered, "I love her. We're in love, James."

"In love? Since when?" He's almost whining now, sinking further in his chair.

"James," Amelia said, looking at him weirdly. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going insane is what I'm doing. Since when?"

Amelia looked at me sheepishly.

I shrugged. "Well, if we've told him we might as well tell him everything," I mumbled.
