Xin Lisa suddenly chuckled and walked to him.

When he heard the sound of her footsteps, Jaehyun raised his head to see her gazing at him.

Looking at her, Jaehyun was quiet for a moment.

Instead, it was Xin Lisa who broke the silence with a smile. “Thank you.”

Jaehyun smiled as well. “What’re you thanking me for?”

“I know you were the one who spoke up about it. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be groveling and apologizing to me today.”

Jaehyun squinted. “And you’re so convinced I was the one behind it?”

Xin Lisa smiled. “Yeah. Nobody else in this world would do this for me besides you.”

Jaehyun’s eyes flickered and he asked, “So, am I considered a special and important existence to you now?”

“Yeah.” Xin Lisa nodded. Because you always remind me of him.

The corners of Jaehyum’s mouth rose and he asked, “Are you free? I’ll treat you to a meal.”

“A meal?” Xin Lisa gave him a puzzling glance.

Jaehyun, “May I have this honor?”

Before Xin Lisa could respond, her phone rang.

As Jaehyun watched her pick up her phone, his expression changed faintly. After the call ended, he quickly asked, “What happened?”

Xin Lisa quickly responded, “I’m sorry, I won’t be able to have lunch with you! I still have some business to attend to.”

“You heading to the airport? Need a ride?”

Xin Lisa weighed the situation and nodded. It would probably be a waste of time if she was to hail a cab on her own. After going back upstairs and quickly grabbing the documents, she hurriedly booked a ticket back while they were on the road.

When Jaehyun saw how pale her face was and how tense she looked, he tried to comfort her, “Calm down. You’ll still be stuck on the plane for a couple of hours so there’s no use being so anxious now.”

Xin Lisa sighed. “I know, I just can’t help it!” Why did her mother faint all of a sudden?

After parting with her, Jaehyun said, “157… , that’s my number. Feel free to call me if you need any help.”

Xin Lisa hurriedly thanked him and rushed to board the plane.

At the hospital, it wasn’t until she heard everything from the doctor that she finally realized how serious her mother’s condition was, and she had no idea this was happening at all.

“Fourth stage stomach cancer. We discovered it too late, so she may not have much time to live even after the operation.”

After she heard that, Xin Lisa felt as if she had lost her soul. Back in the hospital room, she looked at the aging and emaciated face on the bed and she couldn’t help but cry silently.

So, it turns out that she wasn’t able to protect her last loved one in this world.

Xin Lisa signed the consent form for the operation. Even though the operation was a big success, her condition worsened just a few days later, to the point where it was out of control.

After checking her condition, the doctor shook his head and told her to prepare herself mentally, and also to prepare the funeral.

Xin Lisa’s eyes were red. Through the door, she looked in tearfully at her family on the bed, fading a little more each day.

Mother Xin knew as well that she didn’t have long to live. She would always talk to Xin Lisa any time she was sober.

“Mom felt really lucky in my life too, to have such a filial and capable daughter like you.”

“Mom…”
