Chapter Two

Redkit looked up at the massive tom in awe.  "You're Sunstar?"  His eyes widened.

"Yes," Sunstar answered, sitting down and wrapping his tail neatly over his paws.  "I'm happy to know you have opened your eyes.  I have been watching all three of you."

Redkit's tail flicked happily, then he frowned.  All Sunstar had seen of him was when he mewled for food and when he couldn't even see!  Willowkit shot a glance at Redkit.

"What's wrong?" She whispered out of the corner of her mouth.  Redkit looked at her and shook his head, then turned back to Sunstar, who was watching both of them, his whiskers twitching.

"Have you two been around camp yet?"  The ginger tom asked.  Both kits shook their heads.  Sunstar looked around, his tail raising.  "Where's your sister?"  He queried.

"She wanted to go see the medicine cat's den with Featherwhisker," Willowkit pouted.

Sunstar looked surprised.  "Really?"  Willowkit nodded.  "I see," he said softly, looking in the direction of the medicine den.  His expression softened and a small smile grew on his face.  Redkit looked at Willowkit, confused, but his sister only shrugged.  "Well, then, let's go!  I'll show you two around."

Sunstar got up and flicked his tail, beckoning for the kits to follow.  Redkit bounded after him, not nearly matching the leader's long stride.  Willowkit sneezed as Sunstar's pawsteps kicked up dust, and she hastily followed.

Not far off was a large den where a few cats were dozing comfortably.  There weren't many in there, but Redkit knew instantly they were looking at the warrior's den.

"Is this where the warriors sleep?"  Willowkit asked, looking up at Sunstar.

Sunstar nodded.  "Yes.  There aren't many cats in here right now, because most of them are awake.  But, these are the cats that were on the dawn patrol this morning, and they are getting some rest after having to wake up so early."  He looked over at the cats and back to the kits.  "You'll get to meet them later."  He turned around and padded over to a smaller den, one that was similar to the warrior's den.

"That's the apprentice's den, isn't it?"  Redkit squeaked eagerly.

Sunstar smiled.  "It is, Redkit.  You'll be there soon."

"Sooner than later!"  Redkit meowed, puffing out his chest.

Willowkit swatted him softly with her tail.  "Stop being such a show-off!"  She purred.

Redkit grinned.  "I'm going to be the best warrior ever!"  He promised Sunstar.  The ThunderClan leader smiled and walked off to another spot, where a tall cliff loomed.

"I know this place!"  Willowkit mewed.  "This is Highrock, right?"

"Yes," Sunstar said.  "I make announcements to the Clan up here.  Right by it is my den."  He flicked his tail to a lichen-covered cave close to Highrock.  "This is also the place where kits are made apprentices, and eventually into warriors," he said, looking down at Redkit, who was bouncing excitedly.

Willowkit swatted him again.  "You're embarrassing me!" She scolded.  Redkit immediately stopped bouncing and glared at her.  She'll never see it coming!  Redkit grinned, and pounced on his sister, causing her to squeal in protest as they rolled along in the dust.  He pinned Willowkit down and saw that his Clanmates were watching him.  His fur fluffed up in embarassment as they all stared at him with amused expressions.  What am I doing?  Redkit thought.  I have to show them I'm not some kit!  He smoothed his fluffy fur with his tongue and strode back over to Sunstar.  Willowkit rolled her eyes and walked back next to him.
