You say these words

Thinking that you're funny.

These words that you say

Actually hurt.

You laugh it off

As she goes home to cry.

People will just tell her

"Toughen up!"

And tell you

"Way to go!"

Hurting her

Makes your hurt go away.

Little do you know

Those words could do far worse.

She goes home,

Takes out a blade.

As it ever so slowly glides across

Her skin,

You'll be laughing away

Feeling great about yourself.

The bitter truth, however,

Is that you only hurt her because

You, yourself, are hurting.

You crave to see other people

Feel this way.

You continue

Day in and day out

To say these words to her.

Soon she finds herself

Lying on her bathroom floor,

Blades and pills scattered.

The next day

There's an announcement.

An announcement about

Her suicide.

You take a gulp.

You blame yourself.

Only then do you realize,

You're the reason.

You start being mindful of your

Words,

But only once

It's too late.
