Y/n and Miles were seated across from each other in the luxurious French restaurant. Surrounded by low jazz music and the clinking of champagne glasses.

The couple had a date night at least once a month and Miles always assured that he and his girl had the finest of dining.

"I know you don't like tomatoes but you have to try it." Miles said to Y/n as they decided on their meals.

"Hello, so what can I get for you two tonight?"
She looked up at the waiter when she heard his voice. He sounded so familiar to her.

"We'll both have the Chicken Basquaise with the Lyonnaise salad." Miles ordered for the two.

"Alright and-" The waiter started before he and Y/n made eye contact. They stared at each other for a second before he spoke up.

"Y/n? Y/n L/n?"

She recognized him but couldn't remember his name so she only nodded.

"It's me, Elijah." He smiled widely.
Elijah and Y/n had worked together as baristas at their local coffee shop when they were in high school.

"Oh, Elijah! I knew I recognized you. How are you?"

"I'm good, I'm good. Just finishing college and just got this job so things are going good. How about you? It's been forever."

"It has! I'm good. I'm studying psychiatry and-"
Y/n was cut off by Miles clearing his throat.

She looked over at him and was met with a bitter expression on his face. She quickly turned her head back to Elijah.

"And I just got engaged. This is my fiancé, Miles."

"Hi, nice to meet you." Elijah stuck out his hand to shake his but Miles didn't accept his greeting and only stared up at the waiter with a blank expression.

Elijah pulled his hand back.
"Oh, well um congratulations. I'm sorry to interrupt your guys' time."

"No, it's fine. It was nice to see you." Y/n smiled, feeling bad for Miles' rudeness towards her old friend.

"You too. I'll be right on your order." He stated before walking away.

Y/n looked over at Miles.
"Really? He was just-" Y/n started but was cut off.

"Don't." Miles said sternly, giving her a look she knew all too well.

Y/n stayed quiet for a moment before trying to reason with her fiancé once again.

"Miles. He was an old fr-"

"You're only making it worse for yourself."

Y/n didn't dare say anymore, aware that she would be punished when they arrived back home.

Miles and Y/n sat in silence through their meal.
The only words spoken were from Miles when he asked "It's good, isn't it?" in a condescending tone.

The two didn't say a word to each other during the car ride home. Miles didn't even open her door for her like he usually does.
